Matthew 5:14 – Light of The World

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:14‬ ‭ESV‬‬

2016 ended with a resounding thud. I watched many of my friends and my acquaintances lament the year as if the passing of it were the passing of a sworn enemy. But in truth, many good things happened that weren’t publicized very well or that maybe we just forgot. Median wages rose while poverty rates fell for the fastest since 1959. The Summer Olympics dominated television, with men and women’s swimming standing out as never before seen athletic feats. There are signs the ozone layer is healing itself.

However, in a world that is bent towards doom and gloom, we as Christians hold the ultimate light. We have the Christ, the Son of God, who shines from us and then makes us the light as well. I challenge you that as we go into 2017, while the world is harping more and more on the things that the enemy twists into bad, stand on the hill and shine brightly down. Let that darkness only serve as an even more stark contrast to God’s bright love. Let your light shine “and give glory to your Father who is in Heaven.”
