James 1:2-4 – Count It All Joy

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

~ James 1:2-4

Sometimes in life we run up against trials that wear us out physically and emotionally. If our identity is found in Jesus, then we know that those trials will produce something so much more valuable than momentary irritation. When we place our hope and faith in Jesus, He gives us joy through the trials. Maybe not happiness, but joy instead. Joy that is everlasting and fulfilling.

Maybe you’re in the midst of some trial(s) right now, and maybe there’s not a lot of happiness involved in them. The endurance that is formed through that trial can provide you with the perseverance to rely on Jesus through the next time a trial comes up. Finding joy in trials doesn’t mean that we’re going to be happy, but it does mean that we’ll continue growing closer to Jesus.
