Genesis 21:1 – Be Still. Know I Am God

The LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did to Sarah as he had promised.
~ Genesis 21:1

As He has said…As He has promised.

When Sarah first hears that she will have a son in her old age, she laughs. Sarah struggles to believe that, in her old age, her womb could bring life into this world. In this Old Testament passage, long before the birth of Jesus, we experience God bringing resurrection hope into Abraham and Sarah’s life. God gave them the promise. He told them what He was going to do but He did not tell them when.

Abraham and Sarah grew impatient and for a time they let go of God’s resurrection hope for Sarah’s womb. They devised their own plans and tried to take a short cut. This shortcut only brought more trouble into their family. In Jesus, we have resurrection hope. We need to live in resurrection hope. We need to know that believing in Christ’s resurrection will bring life and hope into every area of our lives. Is there an area of your life that seems dead or hopeless? Don’t make your own plans and further complicate things. Trust God. Hold on to the resurrection hope of Jesus. Believe that He will do as He has said and He will do what He has promised. Just as God visited Sarah and brought life to her womb, He can bring life to you. Trust. Believe. Be still and know that He is God.
