Exodus 3:12 – One Small Step
Monday night I had the pleasure of attending a Missions Conference at my church home. I sat in awe as I listened to Tim Fleming give his testimony of being called to move his family to Mexico to become full-time missionaries. I also laughed as he shared how he gave God every excuse in the book as to why he was not qualified to go to Mexico.
These two particular reasons really struck a chord with me, as I have asked God the EXACT same things.
- “Who am I, Lord?â€
God spoke to Moses through the burning bush, telling him to go back to Egypt and free the Israelites. Moses responded, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?†Seems like a legitimate question, right? Except that God’s response was “..I will surely be with you; and this will be the sign to you that I have sent you; when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.†Exodus 3:11-12.
If God is nudging you, there is a specific reason why He wants YOU for the job.
- “God, surely you can find someone better than me!â€
Yet, God loves to use weak people! “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.†Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.†2 Corinthians 12:9
God chooses those who will depend on Him. He doesn’t choose people who seem to know it all, have it all together, and who will keep the glory for themselves. God’s great glory is allowed to be seen through our weakness.
I wrote as fast as I could because I felt like every word from Tim’s mouth was so powerful, filled with the Holy Spirit, and yet quite convicting. I know God is faithful to be with me, but I’m still consumed with anxiousness when He calls me to do something out of my comfort zone. Then Tim said something that will  stay with me forever:
“As humans, we may not feel like we can trust God perfectly. But, we can trust Him enough for the next small step.â€
Just one small step. Take that one small step, and see where the will of God will take you.
God’s put something on your heart, hasn’t He? Will you be willing to simply take the first step?
