No More Tears
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” â€â€Revelation‬ â€21:1-4‬ â€ESV‬‬
This old, broken world can be painful at times. In the last weeks and months, I’ve been reminded of this through various circumstances, such as cancer, death, sin, Â sickness, and so on. I personally know of many families who are grieving right now. If I’m not careful, I can get jaded by this world and my outlook on life quickly becomes bleak. It is easy to become worn down and burdened as we walk through this life. Can you relate?
This scripture in Revelation, though, is NOT bleak and gives us a bright hope to which we can grasp tightly, while feeling our way through this dark world. We, who place our trust in Jesus, have much to hold onto. This old earth will pass away, and a new one will take its place! God will dwell with us once again, just as he intended from the beginning. The ugly things? Death, mourning, pain? Gone! He will wipe the tears from our weary faces, and crying will be no more. What a beautiful hope we have.
Friend, hold fast to this good news, even as we traverse the brokenness for now. Eternity is so much longer than our short time here on earth. Yes, we will hurt and feel pain for now, but wait…the best is yet to come! Take comfort in this promise from our faithful God. One day…there will be no more tears.
