I was sitting in the car the other day when a song about Jesus came on the radio.

And as I listened to the lyrics for the first time, God really used the song to speak to me.  God often speaks to me through His Word, but the Holy Spirit can also speak to us through the words of another person, a song, or a poem–especially when those words are saturated with biblical truth.

So as I sat and soaked in the words of “Jesus” by Chris Tomlin, my mind was taken to God’s Word to dwell on all that HE IS.

Jesus: the Truth (John 14:16), the Promise (Isaiah 7:14), the Light (John 8:12), our Freedom (John 10:10), Our King (John 18:37). He calmed the storm (Mark 4:39), He walked on water (Matthew 14:25), He walked in the fiery furnace with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (Daniel 3:25). He is our Savior and Deliverer, and He walks with us.

How perfectly and marvelously Jesus fulfilled God’s promise for redemption for us! How thoroughly amazing He is, both God and man. Name above all names, our Hope and Peace: Jesus.

There is a truth older than the ages
There is a promise of things yet to come
There is one, born for our salvation

There is a light that overwhelms the darkness
There is a kingdom that forever reigns
There is freedom from the chains that bind us
Jesus, Jesus

There is a name I call in times of trouble
There is a song that comforts in the night
There is a voice that calms the storm that rages
He is Jesus, Jesus

Who walks on the waters
Who speaks to the sea
Who stands in the fire beside me
He roars like a lion
He bled as the lamb
He carries my healing in his hands

Messiah, my Saviour
There is power in Your name
You’re my rock and, my redeemer
There is power in Your name
In Your name

God, you walk on the waters
You speak to the sea
You stand in the fire beside me
You roar like a lion
You bled as the lamb
You carry my healing in Your hands
