Count Your Blessings
You guys, I was really sick this weekend and didn’t write a devotional. I wrote one just now, and it was really close to one that got written yesterday, because I wasn’t reading them either so I have to save that one for another time. I was that sick. Which brings me to this devotional.
I was really sick last year, too. And my sons describe it as “the time I tried to keep from yelling as I taught them how to make cereal for themselves.” It was miserable. And difficult.
But I tell you that to tell you this. “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.” (Proverbs 18:22).
This is not a love letter to my wife, though it easily could be. Nor is it a slap in the face against the single man and woman. You have an entire apostle advocating for you. This is a reminder to never take the blessings that God does give you for granted. This is a reminder to “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits” (Psalm 103:2). My kids were a blessing for making their own cereal. My wife was a blessing for taking such great care of them and me and continues to be. It’s a blessing to eat more than crackers and dry toast, y’all.
My prayer for you this week is just that. Find the blessings. Count them. Find the positive. It’ll surprise you. And if you were raised southern baptist, I dare you to get the hymn that is in your head out of it for the rest of the day.
