Fellow Moms…Rest in Him
I remember crying on the way home from the doctor when I learned that I would not only need foot surgery, but that I would need to be home from work for three weeks. How could I possibly be home for three weeks with nothing to do? It was only a few minutes into the crying fit (and I say “fit” because it really was! I was mad and not getting my way!) that I felt God speak to me…”Jill. I told you that your word was ‘rest’ for this year. I need you to rest in Me.”
Instantly I felt His peace, and His plan, in this time away from work.
One of the things that I’ve been able to do these past few days since surgery is to actually read a book. My friend let me borrow the book “Rhinestone Jesus” by Kristen Welch. I’d already been thinking about how important my role as a mother is, when I read this quote from the book…
“Looking at my life, some people would say I have gotten to do some big things for God. But the most significant thing I’ve done for Jesus is to love and serve my family. Motherhood becomes me, and God uses it daily to refine me and draw me closer to Him.”
Amen! Possibly the most important thing I can ever do for Jesus is to be a wife and mom. This is a huge revelation, especially for someone like me who once valued my career above most else. I’m so thankful God has blessed me with an amazing husband and children. And as the Bible says, “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.” Psalm 127:3.
My fellow Moms…never diminish the powerful role you have as a Mother! God has entrusted us with raising His gifts. It is the hardest, most rewarding job, we could ever have. Praying for God to guide our steps and provide the rest we need in Him.
