The day before Jesus resurrection, the known to everyone was darkness. The disciples didn’t know what we going on. Their hopes and dreams had all just been taken away when Jesus hung on the cross until death. They were confused.
There’s no hope in darkness. There’s no joy in darkness. There’s no peace in darkness because fears creep in. Every sound, every smell, everything prey’s upon your fears.
Remember, they’d walked and talked with Jesus for years. They had seen him heal the sick, give sight to the blind, cast out demons, and even raise the dead. They truly believed he was the Messiah. They’d been living in the light and now, they found themselves in darkness. So many unknowns. Would the Pharisees target them now? Would they have to die a brutal death also? How could they have fallen for this?!
We know the truth even more than they did at the time because we read about it in history. They lived the history. They learned that Jesus was truly the Messiah. Jesus brought them out of the darkness into light when he came back to life and visited them. Thomas was able to touch Jesus and know that He was real.
As believers, we know Jesus. He resides in us yet sometimes, we find ourselves in darkness. We can’t seem to see the truth – the light. We want desperately out of this darkness, but it draws us in and tries to keep the light away as though Jesus is no longer with us.
The only way out of the darkness is to confess it to our Lord and Savior, Jesus, the Christ. Tell him that you’re tired of the darkness, and what’s caused it in your life, and he will give you freedom. He’s RISEN! He’s ALIVE! He’s THE LIGHT!
God bless you!
