He Will Come To Us In A Whisper

I was reminded recently to wake up every morning with the expectation that God is going to show up. Many of us interpret this to mean that God is going to work a miracle in our own lives, answer a prayer we have been praying for, or fix something we need help with. I think it is important to realize, that although that may be God’s plan for the day, his plan may be somewhat different. His plan may be to show up through us, using our sphere of influence to demonstrate his love and grace to others.

Matthew 5:16

16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

I am challenging myself to shine the light of God’s grace and love through every trivial daily task. We never know who is watching or paying attention to our actions, how we treat others, or even how we go about our day to day tasks. If we claim to love God, how important is it that others see us exuding that love throughout the day. At the same time we must be aware and attentive to the people around us, people that God may be planning to use us, our past trials and tribulations, and influence to bring to God’s grace and never ending love.

I am reminded often how important it is to listen more than we speak.

1 Kings 19:11-12
11 The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake.
12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.

The Lord will come to us in a whisper. It is our responsibility to be attentive to others and what their struggles may be, listening carefully, not trying to fix their problems with what we feel they should be doing, and wait for God to show up and hear his whisper. He will use our past experiences, our trials, who he designed us to be, to show up in someone’s life and demonstrate to them how awesome his Grace and never ending love is. Everyday God will show up, you just have to expect it and pay attention.
